When a manual restore is created what file(s) are actually written and where
are they written to ?
Why is it not possible to rename the restore once created ?
Apologies if this has been asked / answered prviously. T.I.A
What is written depends on what has changed since the last restore point
- WinXP saved them as a 'chain'. This has the effect of making a single
restore point useless (you can't archive it for future use) since you
need all the ones between 'now' and 'it' to effect a restore.
The necessary files are written to a folder (on each monitored volume)
under
C:\System Volume Information\_restore{lotsofnumber}\<restore point
folder>. If you assign yourself rights to access SVI (normally it is
owned by, and only accessible to, the 'SYSTEM' user) you can then look
inside the data .. but don't mess with it manually.
Lots more information exists out there on the web, and in previous NG
postings .. try
www.google.com or groups.google.com to find it.
