xp repair install

When I get to the screen after accepting the license this
is what is in the box below the choices
"Unknown Disk"
<there is no disk in this drive>
And I only have a choice to install, delete partition or
quit.
Does anyone know why I can't perform the XP Repair
install?

If it gets tot hat point, it is telling you that A) Your XP installation is
toast or B) Your hard drive is toast.

Either way you have lost the lot on that drive and need to start from
scratch.
