Setup reported a missing file MSDART.dll but continued. 13% into Install Hardware Components it hung and no amount of rebooting will get it past that point. I tried a boot disk but it reports it can't run Safe Mode during Setup. I can get a c: prompt but I'm not sure what to do with it. Any suggestions would be appreciated as there is 4 years of work on this machine that I would like to access. Is the only alternative to format the hard drive from the c: prompt and reinstall? ... Please tell me it isn't so

William, if you can get to the C: prompt type:
xcopy x:\i386\*.* c:\i386\*.*/s/e That will attempt to copy
the needed folder to the hard drive. From there
you can try installing from the hard drive.

No you do not have to REFORMAT ..

So don't give up .. this is a MS DAC
Data Access Component problem ..

If you get error messages, press
OK for about a hundred times and it
will finish installing...
