After running flawlessly for 18 months, my XP home now
reboots when I close my ie browser window, sometimes when
I go to open it, and sometimes when I change url's.

Yes, I have a software firewall (Tiny Personal) and a
firewall in my Linksys router, and Norton Antivirus 2002.

This started after I installed Frontpage 2000.
I then did all the service paks for fp2000, and patches.
I also did all the service paks for XP.
I also did the blaster worm removal sequence, with the
tool from symantec, which reported no worm was present. I
searched for the worm manually, and did not find it either.

I turned all the switches for RPC to "take no action."
This step has slowed the reboots, but not eliminated them.

Any ideas, other than a complete re-installation of XP?

Please help.

Thanks, Mike

Mike,
Here are a few things to try. Go to the Control Panel,
System, Under the Advanced Tab, Startup & Recovery, click
the Settings box. In the System Failure Area, uncheck the
box that says Restart on Failure.
If this box was already checked, then another thing to try
is a repair reinstall of Windows XP. You do not have to
start from scratch and lose everything. Check out the MS
help site and follow the directions on opening the Repair
Console and note the directions for the repair/re-install.
Good Luck !
