Recently I lost power and my installation was corrupted, always going to safe
mode. I tried a number of things but finally just re-installed windows. It is
XP home. This worked but now I have 2 copies on the same partition. On boot
up it asks which copy to use, the corrupted one is still there. Is there
anything I can try to save my old copy , since I would rather not have to
re-install everything. If not, how do I uninstall the old copy of windows?
Thank you for any help you may have.

If the installation failed what are you trying/going to save...To
delete,boot to xp
cd,recovery,press enter key for password,select 1 for C:,then type:DiskPart
In DiskPart delete the unwanted partition, then press Esc key, then type:EXIT
Let xp start up.

Andrew,

Just once, I'd like to see you post a response to an
installation question that isn't based on nuking the hard
drive. It's bad enough that your answers are barely coherent,
they're reckless and borderline malicious. I can't tell whether
you're a well meaning fool or a mischievous pest. If it wasn't
for the fact that your suggestions could cause serious damage
you might even be entertaining.

Get a clue or get a life.

Please ignore Andrew. The next time he posts a useful answer
will be the first time.

Before you installed the second XP installation, did you try to
run a repair installation? I'm not sure if it would work now
but here's an article that outlines the procedure:

How to Perform a Windows XP Repair Install

If you're unable to salvage the original installation, take a
look at item #20 on how to remove the old files:

I have two installations of XP on the same partition

Make sure you've backed up any files you wish to save from the
old copy of XP. I see you're already aware of the fact that
you'd have to reinstall all of your old applications.

Good luck
