I have a laptop (Compaq 1200) and currently run 98 but, I
recieved a setup disk of XP pro. and decided to install it
and do away with windows 98. the result is that I have 2
separate computers on one. When it boots up it comes up in
DOS and asks if you want to run 98 or XP. I don't know how
to erase either system. 98 runs on my C drive and XP runs
on my D drive. At this point I don't care what version I
run just as long As I can get all of my hard drive space
under on system.

When you installed XP you chose New Installation rather than Upgrade and so
you now have a dual boot system.

If you want to blow both away and just have one XP OS, insert the CD and
reboot the computer. Follow the instructions for installing but at the
screen about partitions, remove BOTH partitions and then create just one,
you'll have to format it before you can continue.

hi i also have a problem quite similar to this

I tried upgrading my existing xp system and somehow i came up with 4 partitions on my hard drive! When it boots up it comes up in DOS and asks if you want to run either of the 4 systems. 3 are new and i only want to use my existing system. How can I get rid of the other 3 partitions only and keep my original

In the DOS screen you cannot differentiate which is new and which is the original version. How can I get rid of the other versions

Please help
