My former employer helped me out by giving me a very nice desktop computer
since mine was on the fritz. It is a Dell Precision 340. Anyway.. he told
the IT people to set me up. They sent me home with the computer set-up with
there little greeting about company policy and you have to ctrl-alt-del first
to sign in. When I left they said keep the computer, I didn't want to give
them the chance to change their minds so I did not ask to have the computer
cleared of any afiliation to them. But now I would like to make it operate a
bit differant. I would like to get rid of the silly greeting, allow other
user accounts to be created and make it so I don't have to do the
ctrl-alt-del thing anymore. Anytime I try to change anything it says I need
the admin password. Can I do what I need without that password and without
having to re-format?

Thanks

Go out and purchase a "Full Version" of Windows XP,
then perform a "clean install".

Get a copy of LockSmith. Reboot the PC with Locksmith in the CD drive and
reset the admin password. After you reset the "administrator" you will have
to reboot. Logon as the administrator (change the domain to the computer
name if you have the option.) Then you can do what you want.
