My XP Professional is suddenly causing me great problems. The problem is
that I have a very hidden file named Csc which seems to hold the files that
have been synchronised 'offline files'. I have disabled synchronising of
offline files but the Csc file is using over 30 G of my hard disk and I
cannot find out how to get rid of the file. Does anyone know the correct
procedure for freeing up my hard disk.

Go to Explorer, Tools, Folder Options, Offline Files and disable Offline
Files.
You can then delete the CSC structure (if you are sure you don't need any of
the files in there anymore.)

Thanks for the advice. I have disabled offline files but can find no means
of deleting anything from the CSC structure anywhere. Your further advice
would be appreciated.

Clive,

(Re)start your system in Safe mode (hit F8 upon startop and chose first
option)
Tried it myself and was now able to delete the CSC-structure.
