I recently updated from 256 mg RAM to 750 mg and from XP Home to XP Pro and installed WINFAX at the same time
I now boot very much slower at start up and processing seems slower as well. I was hoping for more preformance and have less, can anyone help?

Most computers are set up by default to do a RAM check at boot time. You may
not see anything to this effect, but if you could turn off the pretty
startup graphics, you'd see text showing what was going on the background.
More RAM, more time to check it.

As far as Winfax, it usually sets itself up to start when the machine
starts, and it goes directly into auto-answer mode. On any machine I've ever
used the program with, there was a delay while Winfax gave the modem a
little foreplay. If you don't need Winfax on right away, put a stop to it.
As far as I'm concerned, 99% of what ends up in the startup group shouldn't
be there. When the machine has problems, it makes it harder to diagnose if
there are all sorts of extra things happening at boot time.
