Hello,
I've installed XP Professional on Compaq D310. I performed fresh install, wiping out Windows 2000 Professional. The install worked but I cannot make a network connection. In checking the Device Manager I see the following device drivers not installed and listed under "Other devices": Ethernet Controller, and Universal Serial Bus Controller. I've installed XP on systems older than this with no problem. I would try and install the driver but I cannot get files over to the system.
I don't have much information on the system as I got it as a 'throw-away' from my father-in-law's office. I have an ethernet cable connected and see the card light glowing.
Any assistance would be welcome.

You need to identify the network card so you can download and install
the appropriate Windows XP driversa..
Belarc Advisor can give you the details:

You need to download and install the necessary WinXP-specific
device drivers from the devices' manufacturers' web sites.
