XP Professional Activation

I just installed and activated XP professional that I purchased on CompUSA
and on a recently bought Compaq laptop that had XP home edition on it.
However, the laptop is defective and I will have to return or exchange it.
How can I use my copy of XP on a different machine?

Just install it on the exchange laptop.

If it won't activate online, 'phone M$oft up and explain.
