Using xp prof and the usb ports does not seems to work. I installed xp again
and now I have dual boot and the usb ports work ok now for all my usb
devices. I infer that the usb does not function due to usb drivers/programe
in xp. Obviously if I want to use the 2nd installation (xp), I have to
install all the other necessary programes, which I am reluctant to do as I do
not have all the cd. My question is since the usb ports do not seems to work
due to (the drivers etc) will they work if I copy the usb file(s) from the
2nd install into my original xp? What are the files involved andthe procrdure
for it. TIA

The updates usb drivers were part of xp SP1 and SP2,if either exist then
youre system has the right drivers. If you run an intel based mb,then download
thier chip set installation utility and install before either SP,then again
after.The
usb should get updated auto,to chk, open drvice mgr, scroll to usb
controller,R.
click,select update drivers.

first you need to get rid of that dual boot by deleting that 2nd
installation and correcting the boot.ini file to point to the only
installation.
If your XP Pro CD is with SP2 and you feel the USB drivers have become
corrupted you can do an System File Check (SFC) which would replace those
corrupted files with their uncorrupted ones on the CD or the I386 folder on
the Harddrive in the Windows directory
To do this simply go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in:

sfc /scannow

Initial installation is sp1 and mobo is ms-6312 gateway pc. If the usb ports
does not work because of the usb drivers been corrupted, then how can I
rectify it? TIA
