How do I get XP Professional to logon to a windows 2000 domain? I setup in
the Active Directory the Profile location and when I log on I get a message
that the roaming profile can not be found then it looks for a local profile
and after not finding either it uses a temp profile. How do I fix this?

Thanks,

Tim

Do you want to use roaming profiles? Is not, just don't set anything in
there. If you do, then you'll need to ensure that the user has full control
over the profile directory. How are you specifying the roaming profile
path?

Thanks for the fast response. We would like to have roaming profiles setup.
In the active directory under profile we have \\servername\profile\username.
we have a shared folder called profile which I have all rights to on that
server.

Thanks,

Tim

Does the user have full control on the share? If not, their access will be
limited to the lowest settings between the two sets of permissions, if they
have read-only on the share, but full control on the username directory,
they'll have an effective permission of read-only on the username directory
due to the share permissions on profile.

If you are away of all this and already have users (say windows 2000 users)
doing this without a problem, I appologize for starting at the basics.

Are you able to log on as the same user using a windows 2000 workstation?

I think that you may need to share each individual username directory out.
The way I have it set is for the profile to be at \\servername\usernamep$
(The $ makes the share invisible so as not to encourage someone to try to
hack into it and the p is just to specify it as a profile shre as my home
directories are shared out with username$.) You can then set the
permissions so the individual user has full control over the share and
directory and maybe just the admin and that's it. I have it set that way
and it works just fine. I also don't share out the profile directory.
