I'm not sure what happened, but it's possibly related to
the SP2 installation.
My computer (AMD 2000 proc, 256m RAM, 80ghz HDD)will not
let me format the HDD. It's acting like it did when I got
hit with a worm, but all scans are telling me there's no
evil code.
I can not load certain programs that I used to be able to
load, such as Norton Utilities, Adobe Photoshop and
others. Some programs, such as Adobe Illustrator and Nero
load just fine.
I managed to get NU to load long enough to start wiping
some files individually (My only option)but after 13 hours
I shut down the process. I managed to get Win XP Pro to
reinstall (Which is the only way I could log onto to the
internet). Now at start up, It asks which OS I
want...Windows XP Pro or Windows XP Set Up.
Obviously, there's something entirely weird going on that
is most likely going to require a wipe of the drive. I've
tried going through Control Panel with no luck. I've
tried the DOS prompt. I've tried the run command. They
all tell me "Format can't run because the volume is in
use by another process. Format can run if this volume is
dismounted first. ALL OPENED HANDLES TO THIS VOLUME WOULD
THEN BE INVALID. Would you like to force a dismount on
this volume?" I type "Y" and it tells me "Can not lock
the drive. The volume is still in use."
Any suggestions?
