Hello all,

A friend of mine was running XP Home Edition and caught
the Kliev virus. He used a program called WipeDrive to
clean off his harddrive, but he ran into an issue...when
he attempted to re-load XP, he noticed his product key was
missing. In its place was a note that read:"Your product
key was removed by your manufacturer". No biggie--I told
him to call Premio, his manufacturer, and they do indeed
have him listed with his computer by serial number, but
they could not help him with the key. Instead, they told
him that they go through a company called Computer
Brokers. When he called them, they were extremely rude
with him and told him they could not help him. Microsoft
has de-activated his XP, and I was wondering if there is
anything that can be done to help him, as I am out of
ideas, and I know he couldn't use one of the fake keys to
register his XP again. Also, I told him to report Computer
Brokers to the BBB.

Many thanks,

The manufacturer of the computer that preinstalled Windows XP
is responsible for all technical support, including Product Key
replacements. Call them back and ask to speak with a supervisor.

And no, you can't use a "fake key".
