XP problems after system upgrade

I have just upgraded MB, processor, memory, hdd, etc and
reinstalled my XP Pro.

I now find that System Restore is unavailable due to a
fault. How can I fix this? I am also concerned that if one
aspect of XP is not operating then there may be others as
yet undiscovered.

If I simply try to reinstall XP will this fix the problem
and if so will I lose all current settings?

Can anyone help?

If it had been me doing this, I would have done a clean install and not a
reinstall. Try making a full system backup (onto removable media, not onto
your hard disk) of your data, settings, address book(s) and e-mail archives
and files, and boot from the XP CD, go into Recovery Console, delete the
primary partition, and do a clean install. Remember to run the Windows
Compatibility Check first. The extra effort is always worth it for the
benefit of a 'clean' system afterward.
