xp prob

still have problem with reading on xp updated puter, try to play music or games, puter seems to read at half speed. Puter was given to my son, I install pioneer dvd/cd/rw, SB card, an reinstalled XP update, not know if problem there before, no sound, tried swapping slave/master on disk drives ,/that not work. Can play cd rom manually, music anyway jus fine. Please Help before 14yr Old beat me up with mouse pa

thanks but still have same prob, there is sharing IRQs but no conflict, what u think if I format, reinstall 98 & xp...............I have update XP could I install it by it self? U think if I format could I still have same prob

If you have the original Win98 CD then you can do a clean install with
format. Yes it will fix ( erase ) the
problems and start fresh. During the new install it will ask for a valid
OS CD ( 98, ME, Win2KPro etc ).
