I have an Athlon 64 (3200+) with a GeForce 5700+, dual
Seagate serial ATA drives in a RAID 0 array on an ASUS
K8V Deluxe mobo. I have XP Pro w/ SP1. I have all
onboard devices disabled except RAID and one IDE for the
CD player. No PCI devices installed. After 4 days of
trying different combinations of equipment I finally got
thru an XP installation, only to have the system reboot
right before the desktop was about to be displayed at the
end of installation. I shut the system down and rebooted
only to get a BSOD (0x00000024). During the installation
a curious thing happened, at the point where Windows
is "installing devices" every device produced a Windows
warning that the "device has not passed the Windows XP
logo testing ..." Strange, because all of the drivers
were coming off the XP installation disk.

Just call me baffled.

Microsoft does not make an operating system for the 64bit Athlon processor.
They have one for Intel but not Athlon. 64 bit processors are OS specific.

The Athlon 64 is completely compatible with 32-bit software.

The Stop 0x24 message indicates that a problem occurred within
Ntfs.sys, the driver file that allows the system to read and write to
NTFS file system drives.

Follow this procedure to install Windows XP:

The Windows XP CD is bootable and contains all the tools necessary
to partition and format your drive. Follow this procedure and allow
Windows XP to partition and format your drive:

NOTE: It would be best to physically disconnect all your peripheral hardware
devices, except for the monitor, mouse and keyboard, before installing XP.

1. Open your BIOS and set your "CD Drive as the first bootable device".

2. Insert your Windows XP CD in the CD Drive and reboot your computer.
3. You'll see a message to boot to the CD....follow the instructions.
4. The setup menu will appear and you should elect to delete the existing
Windows partitions, then create a new partition, then format the primary
partition (preferably NTFS) and proceed to install Windows XP.

5. Clean Install Windows XP

6. After Windows XP is installed, visit the Windows Update website
and download the available "Critical Updates".

7. After installing the critical updates, be sure and visit the support website
of the manufacturer of the computer to download and install any
available Windows XP compatible drivers, such as video adapter
and audio drivers.

Thanks for your suggestions, but I am still unable to get
XP Pro installed. I am getting various BSODs now, not all
0x24. Some IRQ Less Than Equal, some Page Fault in
Nonpaged Area. I stopped selecting Ntfs as the drive
format and the messages changed. I changed out a DIMM,
but that had no effect.
