I am doing a clean sweep upgrade installation. After initial loading, it
reboots and all that I get is a blank screen with the mouse pointer.

I had done a compatibility check and the Pro says it is a "Go".

Regardless if it is an upgrade on top of "Home" or a clean sweep, I get the
same results. Reinstalling the "Home" edition, there is no problem.

Could this be a hardware problem? I have tried two separate video cards
with the same results.

Thanks in advance.

Hello
hmm
looks like you might need to do clean format and install
from xp home to xp pro, check this site out

Then you can do some more checking here

I would do a wipeout and full install
Hope this helps

Yes, I did a complete format and a full install. I still get the same
results. There have been times when it goes beyond the first boot but
reaches the 34 or 32 minute point and sits there and recycles. This goes on
for over an hour.

I am going to remove all unnecessary boards and see if that helps. At one
time, I had it completely installed, but when I installed Norton's Internet
Security, it went into the blank screen with the mouse pointer only mode
after the first re-boot. I thought it was Norton's software, which I know
better now.

This unit is a Dell 8200 tower, 2.4 Ghz, 512 ram, etc, etc. It originally
came with the Home edition, which installs easily at any given moment. I am
also thinking of moving everything off of the first harddrive so that only
the Operating system is on the first drive. Presently, there is one other
logical drive on it, but I don't believe this is the cause of the problem.

After removal of the D-link wireless board, XP Pro installed flawlessly.
Put this one in your memory bank.
