I ordered a new computer with XP Home. I intend to, as suggested here awhile
ago, upgrade to XP Pro with the upgrade I bought some time ago. This machine
will no longer be used. As suggested, I will do a clean install and get all
the latest updates.

Is SP2 still available?

Is/are there file/s I can copy to a CD, then to the new machine that will
contain all/some of my Windows XP Pro ''personal settings'' I have made over
time? (please tell me there is one file I can transfer that will make the
new machine "look" like the old machine<G>)

Any suggestions, ideas, thoughts, or close guesses greatly appreciated.

Thank you all in advance.

To save your configuration settings (and data files if you want) use
the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard that comes with Windows XP.
Create a folder named \Transfer on your hard drive and tell FASTW to
save the data there. When FASTW is finished you can burn the
Transfer folder and its contents to a CD or DVD. Then when you have
your new computer set up insert the CD/DVD and run FASTW on the new
machine to import the saved data. See the article on using FASTW by
MVP Gary Woodruff at http://www.aumha.org/win5/a/fast.htm

Windows XP Service Pack 2 is still available. I suggest that you
might want to download the entire Service Pack as one file. You can
order it on CD from Microsoft at
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/sp2/cdorder/en_us/default.mspx
or you can download it as one package from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...BE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en

Good luck

Ron,

Thank you very much - SP2 is downloading as I write this and I'll
rerad/follow the advice in the article about the file transfer - never used
it before.
