XP Pro SP2 computer is stuck on myDoom update

Hi -

Just recently I had to upgrade an XP Home Edition to Professional. Per
feedback in this forum from an MVP (thanks), I had to either uninstall SP2
from the home edition machine before upgrading, or slipstream in the sp to
the new media. I chose the un-install/re-install option.

So, I disabled Norton anti-virus (we're inside a firewall), uninstalled sp2,
did the upgrade from HE to Professional, then re-applied the sps/patches,
and re-enabled Norton (all as Administrator) ..

The problem I have is that the machine appears to be "stuck" on the windows
update shield. The shield appears yellow, and I click on it and it says
there are updates waiting. I execute them using the "express" option, and it
says it's downloading & installing the myDoom fix tool. It all indicates
success. However, in a few seconds the yellow shield re-appears and when I
click it a second (or third, or fourth, etc) time, it says it's downloading
& installing the _same_ patch. The behavior just repetes. This behavior
repeates when I go to the Windows Update web site through Explorer and try
to get current on updates ..

So what is going on here ? Is there a resource I can refer to for some help
?
