XP Pro SP2 cannot find server

Hello,
I have recently installed SP2 on a laptop. I followed instructions in
fixyourwindows.com on how to successfully install SP2.
It was fine for a day or two.
I have a dial up connection. My modem is fine. I have no spyware or viri.
I can connect to my ISP but when I open IE6 I get cannot find server and
cannot display this page.
I shut off SP2 firewall and pop-up blocker to no avail.
I am assuming this is a SP2 problem but would appreciate any fixes.

As a follow up this may not be a SP2 issue as I uninstalled SP2 and still
have the problem.
Still would appreciate any suggestions.

1. How do you know your modem is fine? Did you successfully dial another
number (cell phone, for example) using HyperTerminal? Are there any
yellow exclamation marks next to the modem entry in Device Manager?

2. How's your telephone connection on that jack? Does the modem work if
you a) use a different modem cable to the jack; b) connect to a
different jack?

3. Do you have any third-party dialing programs installed?

4. What ISP do you use and have you checked with them?

5. Can you connect to the Internet if you use a different browser, like
Mozilla?
