XP Pro slow to load at startup, and runs slow

I started with the problem of a XP Pro Laptop taking
forever to logon to the network (One windows2000 AD domain
server)
So, step one, I fixed my DNS settings on the server, as
per at kb article, and that fixed my logon time, to under
60 seconds, not bad compared to 5 minutes plus. IF I log
in as admin, its actually faster, and the user as a lot
of shortcuts on the desktop, so I am guessing this is what
takes a little extra time to load. ok So far. System works
fine for a day. (in testing I didn't actually re-boot, I
was just re logging on) At the same time, I updated all
critical updates. Just to note, there are no virus issues
with this system (already checked)

Now XP takes forever just to load, before even getting to
the logon screen. Logon is not as slow but a little
slower, and the XP system runs at a crawl. just opening an
empty browser or excel file takes forever. I found KB
Q811493 that described my symptoms almost exactly, so I
uninstalled this update and re-installed a newer one.
Still no success. I am at a loss as to what I can do! I
ran bootini/bootlog switch, and there are some drivers
that do not load, but I have no idea if this is ok or not,
and what I can do further with this info! Before I jump
from my window, can anyone help!!

Thanks (This is a brand new Fujitsu laptop, 2.0gigahertz,
with only basic software installed
(Office/outlook/antivirus) and whatever came with the
laptop. Feel free to email me direct as well if you wish

Steve,

I would recommend reviewing the third-party services listed in msconfig.exe
and also reviewing what items are shown in the "Startup" tab as well. You
can test with various configurations to see what gives you the best
performance.

I have already done as you suggested, the problem is,
there is nothing else other than the basic laptop drivers
in Startup, and these were all there and working fine for
about 45 days (Laptop is new) In services, they are all MS
services except for 2 which our the Symantec Corp virus
edition, which was loaded also 45 days ago and has been
working fine. This is a pretty clean machine with little
else loaded on it. The only change between running ok, and
running slow, was doing MS critical updates. I tried to do
a system revovery, but I do not have a recovery date back
far enough now. In ntbtlog.txt, these drivers fail to load

NDProxy.sys pcidump.sys
lbrtfdc.sys afd.sys
sfloppy.sys rdbss.sys
i2omgmt.sys mrxsmb.sys
changer.sys mrtrate.sys
Caudio.sys ipnat.sys
kbdhid.sys

The NDProxy.sys and ipnat.sys show failing 2 times

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!
