promoted to log as a guest account of the other, even
after setting a password for the other pc for the guest

Ensure all firewalls are disabled including XP's ICF.

Try disabling Simple File Sharing ... if you want to authenticate with your
credentials to the share.

My Computers.
Click on Tools - Options
Click on the View tab. Uncheck "User Simple File Sharing", it's the last
thin on the list.

To share out your folder ...
Right-click on the folder you want to share and click on "Sharing and
Security ..."
Click on the Sharing tab.
Click on the "Share this folder" radio button and click OK.

If you have firewall enabled, you will need to add some port mappings to do
file sharing ...
(NOTE: It is recommended that you enable firewall on your machines)
1. UDP / 137
2. UDP / 138
3. TCP / 139
4. TCP / 445

To add these port mappings, go to the Network Connections Folder.
1. Right-click on the firewalled adapter and select Properties
2. Click on the Advanced tab.
3. Click on the Settings button.
4. Click on the Services tab, and click on the Add button. Ensure all
fields are fields and the ports and protocol is listed above. Repeat for
all 4 port mappings.
