XP Pro Sharing over home network, but only with certain users.

GPO

In Windows 2000 Windows Explorer, when I right clicked on a folder or drive
and selected "Sharing and Security...", I could nominate those users to whom
I would grant access. I can't seem to do that in my Windows XP Pro. I'm just
setting up a home wireless network (I used to just join two PCs via a
crossover cable) and now I realise that all the shares I've created in XP
can be seen by everybody.

What I want is to be able to say "Share D:\data\ over the network, but only
with Tom and Dick (we don't like Harry)."

XP Pro has the same sharing and security features as 2000 Pro if you
disable simple file sharing:

1. Click Start | My Computer | Tools | Folder Options | View.
2. Scroll to the bottom of the list of advanced settings.
3. Un-check Use Simple File Sharing (Recommended).
4. Click OK.

You might need to un-share and re-share disks/folders to pick up the
new setting.

With Windows XP Pro, make sure you're using NTFS, be sure to disable Simple File
Sharing, and use non-Guest authentication.

OK I may have been suffering from premature effusion...

You wanna hear sumpin wierd?

I have two PCs. One running XP Professional, the other one running XP home.
On XP Pro I can deselect "Use simple file sharing (recommended). On XP Home
there is no such option. The last one in the list under Folder Options >
View is "Show Popup description..." Is there some other setting I have to
have set to make this available?

With XP Home, you're stuck with Simple File Sharing and Guest authentication.
Sorry.
