Greetings --
Last night I put together a new computer for my friend's
father. The hardware is:
Gigabyte 7VT-600L motherboard
AMD Athlon XP 3000+ (333mHZ bus, barton core)
512mb PC3200 DDR400 memory
Seagate 80gb 7200 RPM ATA/100 Hard Drive
GeForce FX5600 256mb DDR 8xAGP Video Card
There is ample cooling, and we have a sufficient power
supply (Antec Truepower 430), but everytime we try to
boot from the XP Pro cd, and load it...it gets almost to
the point at which it'll ask us to hit enter for the
first time, to begin the setup (the first screen) and
gives us a
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGE_AREA
0x00000050
error. We've consulted the microsoft knowledgebase and
technical support on AMD and Gigabyte's websites, but
found nothing. We've also tried the following:
Updating the BIOS: It's already the latest version = F8
Changing memory slots: No difference.
Changing memory modules: No difference, even when using
a DDR333 module
Changing BIOS settings: No apparent difference. Still
got error message, but was a different one at the same
time. This time it gave a 0x00000008 message, not
stating anything about PAGE FAULT, but on reboot, the
0x00000050 message came back.
We're at the end of our rope here and are looking for
suggestions. Please help!
