I purchased the XP Pro and just installed it on my
computer. I received the Feb 2004 Security Update CD as
well. May 3, I installed the XP Pro and then the CD. I
also went to the update site and downloaded 52 gig of
updates; however, the service pack came back with the
message that my product key was invalid. How can this be?
I tried to use the contact us for online support but this
also says my prod. ID has used all of the incidents
available to it. What is going on? Service Pack won't
load and I am sure I need everyone of the updates and
security patches I can get with all the problems there
are on the web. This is the 4th time this month I have
had to rebuild my computer. The first 3 times were with
Win 2K and I couldn't keep the bug from deleting every
system and FTP file on my computer in spite of all the
virus protection I could get. Is there a solution to
this?

Greetings --

If you are trying to install Service Pack 1a and getting the
following:

The Product Key Used to Install Windows Is Invalid

You need to purchase and use a _legitimate_ full retail copy of
WinXP Pro to perform a repair (a.k.a. in-place upgrade) installation,
using the new CD and Product Key.
