I have a computer which I have thoroughly troubleshot. When I go to login I
get Domain controller not found. It acts as if there is no network. If I play
with cables and mess around it might work. If I go in on another computer, I
have no problems. If I go in as administrator on local workstation, I can get
on and it shows I am on line and all that. It is only this computer(Have
tried new cables, new NIC card, cable from an outlet that I know is fine,
etc). If I put a different computer tower in it's place I don't have any
problems whatsoever. I have worked with a local small business in computer
repair and they are stumped and have found no answers. Can anyone here help?
Could this be a spyware issue??? What else should I look at?
Thanks

When you logon as Administrator (on local machine), open the command prompt
and attempt to ping the domain controller by IP address.

If that does not work, run ipconfig /all at the prompt and check the DHCP,
DNS, and the Default Gateway all have valid settings. Can you browse the
Internet while logged on as local administrator?

Right click the My Computer icon and select the Computer Name tab. Make
sure its FQDN reflects its membership in the domain. If all of that looks
good, go to the domain controller and attempt to ping the trouble computer
by IP address. Search the Active Directory for the workstation name. You
can remove the workstation and re-add it back again.

Those are some things that I would start with.

All valid settings. I can ping computer. I can ping internet. I can surf. I
can even find our server. We have even re-added computer to domain. It's kind
of odd, when I add the user name and refresh her name is no longer there.
It's kind of like it begins to add and then just blows it up or something. I
don't know what's going on. With the amount of time I've put in should I
just re install XP Pro. Spybot found nothing when I checked. Just stumped!

Assuming you're configured to allow users to logon to any machine, can the
user logon at another workstation? Can you logon to the users workstation
with your domain account?

She can login to any other computer. I even brought in a different tower with
XP Pro(it was from another room) and it worked fine. It's just this computer.
I can only login as administrator on the workstation(not on domain). Any
ideas? Thanks
