XP Pro Repair

If I'm having a problem that seems to have no normal fix, is there a way to
repair XP without doing a clean install? If so can someone point me to the
instructions? (If you want to see the details of that problem just search by
my display name and you'll see multiple threads about "no sound device")

There really isn't enough information in the original "Sound Device"
posting to determine what is happening. For instance, just what model
of SoundBlaster is the card? If it is one of the earlier soundblaster
cards from the 1990's, then there are no real Windows XP drivers for
them. Check the Creative Labs or SoundBlaster website to determine up
to what OS level were there drivers for each model. And, in addition,
do not count on the driver files from the Windows XP cdrom as being
actually workable with the SoundBlaster. Resolve this issue before
thinking of doing a repair that might not accomplish anything.
 
It is a new card... Blaster Audigy SE. It came with drivers for XP and XP
Pro. Those are the drivers I installed.

I can't select the device in the Windows control panel. No device shows
there even though Windows found it each time I've installed it in the
computer.
 
I had the same problem with the same sound card and found out that the Plug
and Play Enumerator was never installed when Windows XP was installed. I
wish I could remember where I downloaded it from or how you can extract the
files from your installation disk...maybe in the add remove programs/windows
programs.
