I installed XP pro over Home edition. My system ran fine
for a while. I installed Mcafee internet security and
things started getting choppy. Then one day I get this
error saying NTLDR is missing. And it won't go any
futher. I reboot a couple times, sometimes it trys to get
to Windows, other time NTLDR error. Now, nothing but the
NTLDR error. I used the install disc to try and repaid
the MBR, used chkdsk utility, now it tells me hal.dll is
missing and I need to reinstall it. I have no clue how to
do that without getting into windows. Plus, I have tried
reinstalling windows and some how I have two operating
system choices when I boot. One with the NTLDR error, and
one completely brand new, blank OS. Any thoughts?

NTLDR Missing
Many times this error is caused when the computer is attempting to boot from a
non-bootable floppy disk or CD-ROM. First verify that no floppy diskette is in
the computer, unless you are attempting to boot from a diskette

Error Message: Cannot Find \Windows\System32\hal.dll

How to Install and Use the Recovery Console in Windows XP

You can fight with this but I'd suggest you backup what you can and then do
a Clean Install. Wipe out the partitions, repartition, format and start
fresh.
