I have just bought a new machine with XP Pro.

When I'm on line I keep getting these "Messenger Service"
pop ups asking me to buy software to stop them. Surely
there must be a way in Windows?

Any help please e-mail me as they are driving me crazy!

All you need to do to stop these is turn on a firewall. If you want to use
the one built into Windows XP you can use the following article to do that:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;283673

There are also good 3rd party firewall apps out there. I'd suggest doing an
Internet search for "firewall reviews" and investigating those as well to
see what would be best for you

I would be careful of doing this. This service is used by legitimate stuff
to send messages to users. UPS batteries and Anti Virus software to name a
couple. Plus it doesn't address the bigger issue of having your system
unsecured.

I had the same thing you have to run your windows
firewall i found out by searching lol.

Goto Control Panel
Goto Network and Internet Connections
Goto Network Connection
Highlight the connection that you are using and select
properties from right click.
Goto the Advanced tab
Tick the box that says protect my computer etc.
And then OK.
All done no more popups

Hope this works for you it did me.

Regards
