I have an xp pro workstation (stand alone)with plenty of
data locked up on it because the administrator has
changed his password and believes he mis-typed it. now
can't log on.

Microsoft say a re-boot is necessary. Damn.

You'd have thought there was a way to access xp pro in
this kind of emergency, but unless anyone out there has
any idea's of a known way round it......I'm goosed.

This is one of those 'life-saver' situations.
Can a reset disk be created on a different m/c somehow,
to get round it?
I would have thought there would have been a kind
of 'secret master password' scenario around in the bowls
of microsoft.

Any thoughts, other than sympathy would be greatfully
recieved!

Have you got a User with Administrative rights? They can change the
Administrator Password.

BTW you should NEVER run a machine on the Administrator Account only, if
only for this very reason. Set up a User with Admin rights for day-to-
day usage.
You may well have to do a repair install. Your data should be OK unless
there are any encrypted files and folders, in which case they will be
lost.
