XP Pro logon to domain problem

I have a new XP Pro machine that I am attaching to a Server 2003 domain ... I
can see the server (ping) even access the internet, but cannot get shared
resources.

I have a hunch it may be in the user setup, but I cannot find a thing out of
the ordinary. With the user set (I think), I try to add a new network place.
Easy as pie right? But when I enter the correct \\server\share address I
receive "folder you entered does not appear to be valid ..." error message.
I have deleted and re-added the user in the active directory several times
which is why I think it may have more to do with the local XP Pro machine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Laura,

Attaching an XP Pro client computer to a domain involves both setting up the
domain, and setting up the client. Name resolution is essential to the ability
to access "\\server\share".

Thanks for the reply Chuck, but these documents cover how-to setup the DNS
etc. Everything is set correctly, dozens of other users are connecting
without any problem. The question is what happens when things don't work
like they are supposed to ...

Laura,

OK, so what's the difference between the computers that work, and those that
don't? Try moving a user from one of the working computers to the non-working
one.

Look at configuration of the working computers, and compare to the non-working
one. Try "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each computer, as a start.
