Folks,
Strange problem here, I'm a sys admin for my company where we run a
windows 2000 native domain and about 30 Windows XP Pro clients (mine
included). For some time now I've been having this problem every
morning when I come to work. I can log into the workstation just fine.
My mapped network drives work fine. Network printers work fine. When
opening Outlook I am challenged for a username and password. Inputting
my domain username and password doesn't work. There's nothing of great
interest in the event logs.
From the command prompt I type: echo %logonserver% and I get one of my
domain controllers indicating that I was authenticated without using
cached credentials.
Running netdiag returns the winpopup error message: The procedure
entry point DnsNetworkInformation_CreateFromFAZ could not be located
in the dynamic link library DNSAPI.dll.
This machine was built from scratch about 4 months ago and is running
all the latest XP service packs and hotfixes. I also run Symantec
AntiVirus Corporate Edition which has the latest virus definitions
applied. No fancy software or abnormal applications are installed
other than yahoo instant messenger.
A reboot will make this problem go away again until tomorrow morning.
It never happens throughout the day, only after my PC has been idle
all night.
Any thoughts?
Thank you!
Dan Knoblauch.
