xp pro installation

invalid cd key.
Ibm think pad r31. I had to reinstall the os, xp pro. I
do not have the original cd. However the product key is
legitimate and came with the laptop. I tried to use what
I thought was an oem cd but i keep gettig "invalid cd key".

Is there anyway around this?

You'll need to get a replacement of the Windows XP CD.
Your Product Key will only work with the corresponding CD.

As far as I am aware, IBM computers have facilities to 'return to factory'
setup.. reading the manual might help you..

i didn't finish. I reloaded my XP early this week, due to overall computer problems. At the time of downloading I didn't need a code. It was working fine -- it still works with the Internet, but I can't get into my email, which I could do for the past few days. The only thing that's changed is that reloaded Office, but I think I got Email after that. I have a Dell PC, Dimension 4400, approximately 2 1/2 years old.
I found a product code attached to my green "manual". It doesn't work. This is the second copy of Windows I have had -- the first one crashed completely and was unable to be resurrected. I don't kmow which copy this code applies to.
BUT it was working until about an hour ago. I've jus been through this problem with my Office and hope not to repeat it. That problem has taken almost all week to resolve.
