Recently I was installing Windows XP Pro on a friends computer. The install
went fine but now there are two choice each labeled "Windows XP Pro" on
bootup. The first one works fine. The second one says it can't find the
partition. I think it's left over from the previous install when I deleted
the partition and reformatted the entire hard drive.

How do I get rid of the choices and have it just boot into XP?

Thanks.

Shannon

Hi Shannon,

Go to Start/Run and type in: msconfig
Then go to the Boot.ini Tab and click on Check All Boot Paths. If you
receive a warning about a duplicate path: Do you want to remove, choose
yes.

Or...

Right click the My Computer icon/Properties/Advanced/Startup and
Recovery/Settings/System Startup/Edit.

Startup winxp on the c: drive there will be a hidden system file called
boot.ini. Open it with notepad and edit out the second Winxppro. That will
get rid of the message on Bootup.

on the c: drive, edit boot.ini .

Just remove the second boot option and you'll be fine

or do a properties on My Computer, click on Advance, click on Settings for
Startup and Recovery and click on the edit button to edit the boot.ini file
:)

I hope this helps :)

Cheers,
