Xp Pro hangs on startup....more to it

This has been going on for a week now..Now its more
severe. A while ago I started my computer than after 10
seconds the monitor shut off and the computer was still
running. I restart. Its fine. Like nothing happened. Now
its to the point where i have to restart 4-5 times to get
windows to load all of the way

Have you checked the power management?
Right click on "my computer" > select properties> system
properties>Advanced>select settings under startup and recovery>uncheck
"automatically restart under system failure">ok.
Now when you will reboot it will come up with error message.
Also look at the Event viewer.
open control panel>administrative tools>event viewer-here you look for error
logs.
Also check in safe mode.Update BIOS and Video card driver.
