Hi,
I am running winxp pro (SP1) and tried to install
UT2004+DirectX9b. However, on rebooting windows now loads
to the desktop point and then hangs. Everything was fine
before the attempted install.
I just wondered if anyone can make some suggestions on
what might be causing this, and how to fix it. I will list
now the things i have tried to work out what is wrong.

1. Boot from CD, and repair console. CHKDSK /p says there
is a problem, but didnt say what, and didnt attempt a fix.
2. Open command prompt from safe mode and run CHKDSK /f
and reboot. Doesnt seem to attempt to fix anything - runs
through and doesnt say any problems. SAme problem still
there.
3. System restore from safe mode didnt work (gave an error
that the system restore couldnt be performed) The system
restore option is 'ON' under the settings.
4. Ran regedit and under the 'Run' and 'Runonce' removed
any unecessary programs. This didnt fix anything either.

I am currently downloading the directx9b install file to
attmept a reinstall incase that was a problem. (ie using
the dx9 file direct from microsoft, rather then the
version supplied on the game disc) Is there anything else
i could try before having to resort to a reinstall?

Thats for any ideas, i am running out of things it could
be. The fact that i can boot into safe mode, seems to
suggest a software/driver issue on bootup, its just that i
cant seem to locate what it is!

Cheers,

John

Have you considered looking for help from the Unreal
Tournament folks and newsgroups?

Try a Google for your problem. What system hardware do you
have, particularly graphics card? Have you upgraded the
drivers?

Well, i did uninstall UT incase that was the problem, but
it was still there, which i why i am trying to eliminate
any windows issues first.
I have a blaster fx5600 Xt gfx card, with the latest
nvidia drivers (with P4 2.8Gz CPU, 512MB, 120Gb HD).

If DX9b reinstall doesnt work, will hit google and UT
forums as well.
