Hi

Can anyone help please? My Internet browsing is getting slower and
slower. At first I thought it was down to Acrobat Reader v6 but I have
uninstalled that and re-installed v5.5 (at someone's suggestion a while
back).

With a 512K broadband connection I used to get pages in a couple of
seconds - now it can be anything between 30 - 60 seconds or more.

I also have a feeling that the machine as a whole is getting slower. It is
an AMD 2400+ Athlon XP CPU with 1Gb DDR PC2700 RAM so should be quick.

In fact yesterday I was at a friend's house and found that all pages loaded
much faster - he has a 128K connection!

BTW I have Norton AV and Zone Alarm Pro both kept up to date.

Can anyone help please?

Contact your broadband provider for assistance.

Note that some broadband services place limits on the cummulative downloads
per unit time (day, week, month). If you exceed the limit, then their
server will automatically drop the speed of the connection, sometimes to as
low as a 56K modem. Most broadband providers do not advertise this
"feature", but if you ask them directly they will tell you about it, and it
will be in the fine print of the terms and conditins that go along with the
account.

Otherwise, you might have a noisy line, so packets have to be re-re-re-sent
and that can slow things down.

That website pretty much sums it all up :)

Also, scrap NAV and try AVG Free from www.grisoft.com . NAV is a huge
resource hog.

Also, it is true that your ISP may be experiencing problems. You can
always call and complain (and usually get free stuff that way too) :)

Hi

Tthanks - an excellent resource. I've run Highjackthis and saved the
report. No time yet to post it to the forum.

Another common feature of this problem is that when a desktop icon is
clicked instaed of an app loading immediately it can take a minute or two!!
i have also run AdAware and Spybot Search & destroy on a regular basis.

Does this mean anything anyone? It's driving me slowly made!
