I just went out and bought Win XP Pro (Full) for $300 at Office Max and each time I install it (New Install w/ full NTFS C:/ Format +NON Quick) the install works fine and after it finishes it works fine untill I for the first time plug in my high speed *DSL* internet to "Activate Windows" and run "Windows Update" its during this time that I start to get very odd looking Processes in the Windows Task Manager (SVCHOST.EXE CPU 100%) and when I try to end that process I get a remote procedure call thing a ma jig that says my computer will be shut down in 60 seconds so I can't run windows update or anything after this happens I just found out that you can go into the command prompt and type "shutdown -a" to end the shutdown process....

You got bit by, I believe, the Sasser worm.

You must not get on the web without first installing a firewall and virus
protection.

If you have access to another system go to www.microsoft.com and download
the Sasser removal tools.

You can also set the service timeout to 60 minutes (services.msc /s from start, ruN) instead of 60 seconds and download the necessary patch and reboot.
