XP Pro back up help

When trying to backup, I get as far as naming the backup job, but I get an
error msg saying something about file name cannot be used. I have tried a
lot of combinations including just a single letter but nothing seems to
work.
Any suggestions? Also, can the span be set for multiple cd's? If so how?

CD's can't be the target.

On XP backup, do you have to put data on C: 1st, and then write to CD?

Or other drive you have connected. Burn the file to CD afterward.
