Before selling my old computer, I have done a new format and reinstall of
Windows XP Pro. Everything was fine. Next I added service pack 2 from a
Microsoft disk. Now it literally takes several minutes for the computer to
complete its bootup procedure. All I get for these several minutes is a blue
screen with the word "Welcome." There are NO other programs loaded. I have
tried turning off the firewall but this is no help. Is there anybody that can
help me with this problem? I would like to use SP2, but am considering not
using it at all if I cannot clear up this problem. Thank you very much for
any help. Saundra

Saundra, try going to Control Panel>AdminTools>Services>Universal Plug
and Play. rt click choose properties>Startup
Type box select disable.

Thank you Rich for your consideration in helping me. I tried what you
suggested, but it didnt seem to help. Any other ideas? You seem to have seen
this before and so I look forward to your suggestions. Yours, Saundra

Saundra, could you tell me what Motherboard you have? Or what Chipset
you are using. You can find this in SystemInfo
Go to Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Information.
Click on Summary and look in rt pane.
It could be missing drivers which can cause the system to hang at boot.
Also, remove any CD's from the drive/s.
