Hi, i just installed a wireless card into my laptop. evyerthing works fine
except the windows netoworking of printers andfiles.

I have service pack two, and the firewall is disabled, i don't like MS
firewall. any way, i can not access anything in my network places. i belong
to same workgroup as my other computers : WORKGROUP. when i am in myh netwok
it takes a long time to show which workgroupsthere are and then when i try to
go into mine it says: "Workgroup is not accessible. You might not have
permission to use this network resource. contact the adminsitrator of this
sesrver to find out if you ahve access permissions. the list of servers for
this workgroup is not currently available."
which is very annoying . i have my printer and files shared on my ohter
computers. the computers using cables are fine. i have a router and hten an
accesspoint plugged into the router, both linksys. I need to get acces. i
have tried restarting multiple times with no luck.

My network card is a netgear and it came w/ it's own certain driver to
select wireless netowrks if that matters at all.

i am the admin of this computerthat i use. my account has all privalges.

I have ZoneLabs ZoneAlaram firewall installed, i don't *think* IT'S giving
me any issues....

If someone could please help m figure out why i can not see anything... that
would be nice... this is the stranges error ever..

Thanks,

steve

Steve,

ZoneAlarm could very well be a problem. Have you configured it properly, and
added each computer to the Local (Trusted) Zone on each computer? Do you have
ZA Pro, and if so, have you specifically set Trusted Zone to allow file sharing?

This sounds like a browser problem, perhaps caused by ZA, or perhaps another
cause. I"m not talking about Internet Explorer here. The browser is the program
that allows any computer to see any other computer on the LAN.

The Microsoft Browstat program will show us what browsers (I'm not talking about
Internet Explorer here) you have in your domain / workgroup, at any time.
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=188305

You can download Browstat from either:
<http://www.dynawell.com/reskit/microsoft/win2000/browstat.zip>
<http://rescomp.stanford.edu/staff/manual/rcc/tools/browstat.zip>

Browstat is very small (40K), and needs no install. Just unzip the downloaded
file, copy browstat.exe to any folder in the Path, and run it from a command
window, by "browstat status". Make sure all computers list the same master
browser.
For more information about the browser subsystem (very intricate), see:
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=188001
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=188305
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=231312
<http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winntas/deploy/prodspecs/ntbrowse.mspx>
<http://www.microsoft.com/technet/archive/win95/w95brows.mspx>

Please provide browstat information for each computer.
Start - Run - "cmd". Type "browstat status >c:\browstat.txt" into the command
window - Open Notepad, make sure that Format - Word Wrap is NOT checked!, Open
c:\browstat.txt, copy and paste into your next post.

Also, please provide ipconfig information for each computer.
Start - Run - "cmd" - Type "ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt" into the command
window. Open Notepad, make sure that Format - Word Wrap is NOT checked!, open
file c:\ipconfig.txt, copy and paste entire contents into your next post.
Identify operating system (by name, version, and SP level) with each ipconfig
listing.

Steven,

Both Browstat and IPConfig will be most useful if provided for more than one
computer. The more cases provided, the easier it will be to find a clue which
may diagnose the problem. Short of being in front of the computer involved,
this is key to problem analysis. Munge as necessary, but be consistent and do
not munge too much.

The message "Workgroup is not accessible... The list of servers for
this workgroup is not currently available." can have several causes.
- No connectivity.
- Firewall problem.
- Browser problem.

The node type hybrid vs unknown is fine:

That explains the "System error 6118"!
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=298804

ZoneAlarm causes different symptoms, read other cases here. It's still a good
product for several reasons (start the flamethrowers now), but it is problematic
sometimes.

Which other results are you questioning?

Thanks for updating us.

Thank you for the feed back. You received system error 53 because zonealarm
blocks the LAN traffic.
