i have 5 .adm files that are used for xp policy info...conf, inetres, system,
wmplayer, wuau. my problem is that one of them is disabling right click on
the desktop. does anyone know what one it is and what i should look for in it
so that i can reenable the right clicking.

A good way to troubleshoot right-click problems is to use ShellExView to
see what has integrated itself into the right-click context menu. You
can disable everything and then enable things one at a time, testing
after each. Get ShellExView (free) here:

Here they are. I don't think any of them is your culprit.

System.adm
Installed in Group Policy by default
Contains many settings to customize the user's operating environment.

Inetres.adm
Installed in Group Policy by default
Contains settings for Internet Explorer.

Conf.adm
Contains settings to configure NetMeeting.

Wmplayer.adm
Contains settings to configure Windows Media® Player.

Wuau.adm
Contains settings to configure Windows Update.

You don't need to go through the ADM files, you need to go through the Group Policy Editor (Start, Run and enter GPEDIT.MSC). GPEDIT is only supported in XP Pro, not Home.
