Hello there

I am learning about file permissions so that I may have users of my
network access certain files and not others.

I have my head around the concept and have followed a help file that
tells me to do the following.

On a folder, right click and go to properties. I do this and it tells
me to select the 'security tab'. The problem is that I don't have a
security tab. I have general, sharing and customise.

I have gone to advanced and selected a folder for encryption but the
same dialogue appears with no option to select security. I guess that
somewhere along the line there is something I have not done but I don't
know what it is and try as I may, I cannot find the answer. Can anyone
guide me with an answer, or direct me where to look for the answer. I
have spent a long time in help files but they are not clear on this
point

thanks

Tony

Well, you've told us what you want to do but you've left out the
important bit of information - do you have XP Home or Pro? Here are
some links to help you:

Security Tab -

a. The drive must be NTFS
b. For XP Pro, in Folder Options>View uncheck 'Use Simple File Sharing'.
That is the level used in Home, and for some strange reason is on by
default in Pro, too.

How Do I Get the Security tab in Folder Properties? -

Why can't they just have the security tab visible for default!? At least
in the pro version.. Well isn't this supposed to be an os for PROS? LOL :)
