My computer has started running more slowly lately. I
used to be able to listen to music and work in other
programs at the same time without the music skipping at
all. Latlely when i'm listening to music and i do
something like open outlook, the music crackles and skips
until outlook opens and loads. I also noticed that there
are 5 copies of svchost.exe running in processes... is
this normal? How can i stop the crackling?

Seems like the normal bogging down issues associated with
spyware and adware - Your sounds are Secondary elements, so
when other things need processor power, your sounds take
the hit - making the noticable jumps and pauses that drive
ya nuts! Those are just the symptom...

The cause is likely a slew of apps constantly watching your
usage and internet access - you need to kill them.

I keep hearing folks refer to adaware - I don't know that
one. but Spybot Search and Destroy is a keen tool for
this. Also you can manually root out the primary causes by
editing your "run" lines in the registry. I'd run Spybot
first, and then carve up your registry. Do Both. I
rattled off a long-winded explanation of the registry work
in a reply to a post originally dated 5-25 (my reply was
5-26) title of the original post is MSCONFIG. have a look
there for registry work.

Thanks for the reply Nate, I ran Ad-Aware and deleted a
bunch of adware files, then i went into the run keys of
the registry and took out everything that didn't need to
be there. Both these steps helped a little, but i'm
still having skipping sound.... =o/
