Hi, I have an XP pc that is called 'Lamda' Locally. On the SBS 2003 Server it
shows up as the computer name 'machine name' and not lamda. It does not reply
to lamda when pinged but machine name. Is this the reason why browsing the
network folders takes more than 5 secs to get in?

Please help as it is wierd! It is supposed to be lamda! Do i rejoin the
network with the name i want or what else can i do?

Chris,

I can think of 4 places where a computer name / description might be relevant.
# System Properties - Computer Name: Computer Description
# System Properties - Computer Name - Change: Computer name
# Hosts file - first entry
# LMHosts file - first entry

Try finding out where the computer decided to address itself as "machine name",
looking in the above 4 places. Fix that, then rejoin the domain, and use the
desired name.

Then, we'll attack the problem in your other thread, if necessary.
