Currently running xp pro with sp1 & sp2 with security
updates. When looking in add/remove programs there is long
list of updates and feeling this long list is a drag on XP
Operating system(os) slowing performance. Attempted to
remove the service packs. pop up states this may
interfere with currently installed programs. Intuition
says it will disturb registry settings. Would like to
remove all security updates to replace with beta SP2 for
XP to streamline os performance

IS there a way to remove all previous sp's and security
updates without disturbance to other programs currently
installed ?
Is there a way to do this without having to re install
fresh xp os ?

Robert;
Which Service Pack do you have 1 or 2?
You can not have both.

If you have Service pack 1, it is normal for several updates to be
marked SP 2.
Those will be replaced when SP 2 is installed.
SP 2 is scheduled for release in Mid 2004, probably 2-4 months from
now.

It is a bad plan to install a Beta for the sole purpose of cleaning
Add/Remove programs.
If the list seems long, simply uninstall some of your applications.

If you really want to install SP 2 Beta, there is more information as
well as a link to the Microsoft download:
