XP OS does not recognize memory stick

Recently installed XP Pro on an older Sony Vaio PCV l400
and everything went fine except XP does not recognize it
at all. Before upgrading the OS when I would insert a
memory stick it would start automatically, or from my
computer the icon for the memory stick drive would be
there. The Sony Vaio PCV l400 came with a built in mem
stick reader.

okay what I have found out. I updated my vaio grt 160 from home to pro. I found out that sp1(a) deletes my mem stick and my usb ports (drivers or whatever) and they do not work. So when I uninstalled sp1a my office 2003 does not work but my mem stick & usb works. welcome to the world of bill gates. I am teaching myself fedora & suse9.0 (linux) and when I get it down bye bye windows. If you figure out a way around let me kno
