Hi all, At risk of being flamed for posting off topic I seek your opinion.

Coming from 95 I have just acquired a new comp with XP Pro. My uses are simple to the extreme. Just Express/Messenger and Publisher along with photo file storage. I am seeking the simplest idiot proof system. With the only proviso that it be stable and won't hang up, drop out, freeze etc.etc. I am trying to interest my wife into editing accumulated video on the revamped old unit. She is 0/10 computer savvy.

The local wizard waxes lyrical about 2000 for the above reasons but others seem to suggest XP for its simplicity.
Q. Do I install 2000 for her and stay XP for me or both 2000 or XP.?

Cheers and thanks. Otzi.

First of all, recognize that Windows 2000 and Windows XP are very similar. XP and 2000 are just marketing names; under the hood, 2000 is Windows NT 5.0 and XP is NT 5.1. So XP is essentially a relatively minor update to 2000.

I see almost no reason to consider installing them both. I would install XP because it's the newer, better, most stable version, with several improvements over 2000, minor though most of them are. There are no advantages to 2000 over XP.
